about the artist
Born in Adelaide and with a history steeped in the arts including fashion, styling and photography, Belinda Herford is a contemporary abstract painter who avails herself of nature's patterns, lines, textures and movement for her inspiration. Her deep affinity with the simplicity of primitive ethnic expression from around the world in the form of natural textiles, carvings and beadwork has created a diverse range of works that are intimately connected through her portrayal.
Belinda works in oils on the highest quality imported Belgian linen and has steadily gained a strong following for her ability to influence a space with colour and movement and to impart a feeling of calm simplicity through subtle pattern and stroke. Her innovative burnishing technique creates gossamer layers of paint which add a unique depth to her pieces. Belinda's eclectic style and technique together with an exceptional ability as a colourist produces a clear relay of emotion allowing a broad communication to her audience.
Belinda prefers to allow the viewer to interpret her paintings rather than be drawn into explaining her abstract offerrings, she believes that all abstract work should be allowed their own communication without interference or verbal analysis.
Her dramatic, emotive and much sought-after works have been collected and commissioned by private and corporate national and international clients since 2000.
